Project Overview
SEAM Group, a global leader in energized asset performance, partnered with The Refinery to enhance the usability of their proprietary platform, ViewPoint®. The goal was to streamline asset management and improve safety by refining the platform’s navigation, workflows, and overall design. This redesign focused on simplifying complex processes, improving accessibility, and ensuring scalability for SEAM Group’s growing user base.
Solving Real Challenges
During this project, several challenges emerged that required focused design solutions. The existing ViewPoint® platform had significant usability issues, including complex navigation, inefficient workflows, and a lack of design consistency, all of which affected the user experience. By addressing these obstacles, we aimed to create a more intuitive, user-friendly platform capable of supporting SEAM Group’s expanding operations.
Challenge #1 — Complex Navigation
The Challenge
Users struggled to locate key features and information within ViewPoint® due to unclear and cluttered navigation. This led to inefficiencies and frustration, especially for users needing quick access to safety and maintenance data.
The Solutions
Simplified and reorganized the platform’s navigation structure to prioritize frequently accessed features.
Conducted user interviews to understand pain points and map out essential features.
Implemented a card sorting exercise using Optimal Workshop to improve the logical grouping of features.

Challenge #2 — Inefficient Workflows
The Challenge
The existing workflows were cumbersome, resulting in unnecessary steps and hindering users’ ability to complete tasks efficiently. Users managing safety and maintenance tasks found it difficult to navigate through redundant or confusing workflows.
The Solution
Mapped out current workflows using user flow charts to identify bottlenecks.
Refined and streamlined workflows to reduce complexity and increase efficiency, using feedback from discovery interviews to align with user needs.
Conducted usability testing throughout the design process, particularly during Discovery, to validate design decisions early, uncover usability issues, and gather qualitative insights for continuous iteration.

Challenge #3 — Inconsistent Design
The Challenge
The platform lacked design consistency, making it difficult for users to interact with the software intuitively. Inconsistent design elements, such as color schemes and button placements, caused confusion and reduced usability.
The Solution
Developed a unified design system to ensure consistency across all interface elements.
Created high-fidelity UI designs using Adobe XD to establish a visually appealing and cohesive layout.
Produced a comprehensive style guide that served as a reference for the development team to maintain design consistency throughout the platform.

Final Thoughts
The redesign of ViewPoint® has resulted in significant improvements in usability and functionality, making it easier for users to navigate complex workflows and access critical data. By simplifying navigation, streamlining workflows, and ensuring design consistency, the platform is now better suited to handle SEAM Group’s growing needs. These enhancements position SEAM Group to continue delivering exceptional asset performance and safety solutions across various industries.
